REMINDER:
Your child should have TWO music books and will need both at every lesson. One of them is colored green (violin) or pink (viola). These are the Lexington Public School String Supplements which I passed out in class. In the front is a practice chart. Each week, I will give your child his/her homework, and s/he will write the number of minutes practiced each day. At the end of the week, your child should ask you (or another responsible adult) for a signature in his/her practice chart.
The 2nd book is called "Orchestra Expressions (Book 1)" and you should have gotten that with your rental instrument. If your child doesn't have the OE book, he/she will need it.
If you don't yet have it, you have some options:
1) contact your rental company directly (or visit one of their music stores).
2) go to Amazon for the violin book or the viola book.
3) go to Spectrum Music, in downtown Lexington, right behind Cary Library.
Your instrument should have come with a shoulder rest of some kind. If it did not, please contact your company, or you can visit one of the stores - Johnson String Instruments & Music & Arts are in Newton and Leonard's Music is in Bedford; all carry them and have regular hours. Acoustic Strings is in Somerville and only open by appointment. Here are two shoulder rest examples:
1) Kun (this is a common brand)
2) Shaped foam shoulder rest
Either is great - we do ask that all beginning students use shoulder rests.
